Day Trips for Your Barcelona Itinerary

14/08/2023

Day trips are a great way to maximize your travels. Make the most of your Barcelona adventures and explore more of Catalonia by day-tripping to areas outside of the city. Keep reading below for some of the top Barcelona day-trip destinations, all just a short train ride away.

Sitges: Scenic coastal beach town
Getting there: Hop the train from the Sants, França, or Passeig de Gracia station. Once you arrive in Sites, the beach is less than a 10-minute walk from the station.
Travel time: 35-45 minutes each way

Girona: Beautiful medieval city
Getting there: Take the train from Sants station in Barcelona to the main train station in Girona.
Travel time: 38 minutes each way

Montserrat Mountain: Catalonia’s sacred mountain range
Getting there: Depart from the Plaça d’Espanya train station and arrive at the Monistrol de Montserrat station, at the foot of the mountain. From there, you can take the cable car to reach the abbey and the Sant Joan Funicular to reach the summit. (Look into purchasing the comprehensive Trans Montserrat ticket or booking an organized tour for convenience.)
Travel time: Just over 1 hour each way

Tarragona: Historical city known for its Roman ruins
Getting there: Take the train from Sants station in Barcelona to the Camp de Tarragona station.
Travel time: 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes each way

I personally have been to Girona, but would love to see Sitges and Montserrat Mountain next. Which day trip would you do? Let me know in the comments!
